About the Engineered Web

Welcome to the Engineered Web - A blog that helps web developers and web engineers do the magic that they do.

Much of what has been built on the web since it's creation has been done in an ad hoc manner. In the early years of the World Wide Web things were simple and ad hoc worked well. These days web developers and web engineers are creating complex systems that resemble the complexity of large software applications. These systems need to be built around an architecture and build with maintainability, sustainability, and testability in mind. That's what the Engineered Web is about.

Why This Site Exists

This may seem like a no brainer to a lot of people crafting cool web stuff. But, many of the major universities are teaching people bad habits that don't work or scale. If you browse the web for tutorials or how-to guides they miss many of the engineering and architecture principles which are sorely needed in crafting the future of the web.

Who is the Engineered Web?

Matt Farina, a web developer and engineer, is the blogger here. He has been programming for 20 years, has an electrical engineering degree and has engineered products, and works full time developing for the web.
